Lokomotywy tej serii powsta\u0142y w ilo\u015bci 50 egzemplarzy w dawnym ZSRR w zak\u0142adach NEWZ wchodz\u0105cych obecnie w sk\u0142ad koncernu Transmaszholding. Wzorowane konstrukcyjnie na lokomotywach W\u014110 i W\u014111 cechuj\u0105 si\u0119 du\u017c\u0105 moc\u0105 ci\u0105g\u0142\u0105 rz\u0119du 4,48 MW, prawie o p&oacute;\u0142 MW wi\u0119cej ni\u017c lokomotywy dwucz\u0142onowe serii ET41 i ET40. <br \/>Cz\u0119\u015bci\u0105 oszcz\u0119dno\u015bci ma by\u0107 r&oacute;wnie\u017c fizyczna likwidacja 7 istniej\u0105cych jeszcze lokomotyw serii EU06, natomiast &oacute;sma EU06-01 zosta\u0142a odrestaurowana i ma trafi\u0107 do muzeum.
