W 1990 r. na tym samym terytorium sie\u0107 czynnych linii kolejowych liczy\u0142a 231,6 tys. kilometr&oacute;w. A zatem przez minionych kilkana\u015bcie lat &bdquo;wsp&oacute;lnotowa&rdquo;sie\u0107 dr&oacute;g \u017celaznych skurczy\u0142a si\u0119 o 16,2 tys. kilometr&oacute;w. A\u017c 6,7 tys. kilometr&oacute;w zdemontowanych europejskich linii kolejowych le\u017cy w Polsce. Dane na ten temat ujawnia raport &bdquo;Energia i transport w liczbach 2007&rdquo;, opracowany przez funkcjonuj\u0105c\u0105 w strukturze Komisji Europejskiej Dyrekcj\u0119 Generaln\u0105 ds. Warto wspomnie\u0107, \u017ce coraz wi\u0119cej czynnych dr&oacute;g \u017celaznych jest tak\u017ce we wszystkich krajach maj\u0105cych status pa\u0144stw kandyduj\u0105cych do Unii Europejskiej &ndash;od 1990 r. wyd\u0142u\u017ceniu uleg\u0142y sieci kolejowe w Chorwacji (+12,2%), w Turcji (+3,2%) oraz w Macedonii (+0,4%).
