Zalet\u0105 systemu EGR jest brak konieczno\u015bci stosowania dodatkowych substancji lub czynno\u015bci obs\u0142ugowych, jednak wyst\u0105pienie jego awarii b\u0119dzie uniemo\u017cliwia\u0107 prawid\u0142owe funkcjonowanie silnika &#8211; albo zostanie &#8222;zalany&#8221; gazami spalinowymi albo te\u017c niedob\u00f3r spalin dostarczanych do procesu spalania spowoduje, \u017ce mieszanka paliwowa stanie si\u0119 zbyt uboga, aby silnik m\u00f3g\u0142 pracowa\u0107. Uk\u0142ad SCR co prawda wymaga stosowania p\u0142ynu AdBlue i pami\u0119tania o jego tankowaniu, ale jest mniej podatny na usterki. W razie awarii, silnik b\u0119dzie bowiem pracowa\u0142 normalnie, jedynie emisja spalin wzro\u015bnie do poziomu norm Euro 2 &#8211; Euro 3. Najwi\u0119ksi dostawcy paliw w Europie ju\u017c przygotowuj\u0105 si\u0119 do stworzenia sieci dystrybucji AdBlue na stacjach benzynowych.
