Jest to g\u0142\u00f3wnie wynikiem wzrostu zam\u00f3wie\u0144 eksportowych, kt\u00f3ry wyni\u00f3s\u0142 a\u017c 23% i osi\u0105gn\u0105\u0142 poziom 12 miliard\u00f3w euro. Zam\u00f3wienia krajowe wzros\u0142y o 4,1% do warto\u015bci 4,1 miliarda euro. O 10% wzros\u0142y tak\u017ce obroty, osi\u0105gaj\u0105c warto\u015b\u0107 14,9 miliarda euro, przy czym tak\u017ce tutaj wi\u0119kszy wzrost zanotowano w sprzeda\u017cy eksportowej, ni\u017c na rynku krajowym. W por\u00f3wnaniu do 2003 r., znacznie wzros\u0142y inwestycje oraz koszty prac badawczych, co zwi\u0105zane by\u0142o m.in. z wprowadzeniem silnik\u00f3w D20 oraz uk\u0142ad\u00f3w common-rail do produkowanych wcze\u015bniej jednostek. Dobre wyniki odnotowano tak\u017ce po stronie zysku operacyjnego, kt\u00f3ry wzr\u00f3s\u0142 o 50% z poziomu 383 milion\u00f3w euro w 2003 r. do 573 milion\u00f3w euro w 2004 r. Zysk brutto wzr\u00f3s\u0142 jeszcze bardziej, bo o 73% (453 miliony euro wobec 261 milion\u00f3w w 2003 r.) Wynik ten koncern zawdzi\u0119cza przede wszystkim dzia\u0142owi samochod\u00f3w u\u017cytkowych, kt\u00f3ry zanotowa\u0142 skokowy wzrost zam\u00f3wie\u0144, co pomog\u0142o uzyska\u0107 znaczny wzrost produkcji i sprzeda\u017cy. Dzi\u0119ki wdro\u017conym w ubieg\u0142ych latach dzia\u0142aniom restrukturyzacyjnym, zar\u00f3wno cz\u0119\u015b\u0107 produkuj\u0105ca ci\u0119\u017car\u00f3wki, jak i autobusy mog\u0142y pochwali\u0107 si\u0119 znacznie ni\u017cszymi kosztami. Przy zysku operacyjnym, wynosz\u0105cym 342 miliony euro (w 2003 r.: 203 miliony), dzia\u0142 samochod\u00f3w u\u017cytkowych mia\u0142 najwi\u0119kszy udzia\u0142 w zysku operacyjnym ca\u0142ego koncernu.
