Jest to niskopod\u0142ogowy autobus miejski nap\u0119dzany lotnym wodorem, przechowywanym pod wysokim ci\u015bnieniem w specjalnych zbiornikach. Wkr\u00f3tce rozpoczn\u0105 si\u0119 pierwsze uliczne testy tego pojazdu. Toyota aktywnie pracuje nad rozwojem pojazd\u00f3w nazywanych FCHV (Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle &#8211; Hybrydowy Pojazd na Ogniwa Paliwowe), kt\u00f3re czerpi\u0105 si\u0142\u0119 nap\u0119dow\u0105 z ogniw paliwowych oraz dodatkowego akumulatora. W ramach tego programu ju\u017c wcze\u015bniej powsta\u0142 autobus na ogniwa paliwowe FCHV-BUS1, r\u00f3wnie\u017c bazuj\u0105cy na niskopod\u0142ogowym autobusie liniowym, zbudowany w czerwcu ubieg\u0142ego roku. FCHV-BUS2 jest ulepszon\u0105 wersj\u0105 FCHV-BUS1 &#8211; cztery egzemplarze tego modelu, pocz\u0105wszy od wersji 60-osobowej, zosta\u0142y dopuszczone do ruchu publicznego. W autobusie Hino FCHV-BUS2, podobnie jak w jego poprzedniku FCHV-BUS1, wod\u00f3r w postaci gazowej przechowywany jest w umieszczonych na dachu butlach. Jednak FCHV-BUS2 wyposa\u017cono w dwa zespo\u0142y ogniw Toyoty, ka\u017cdy o mocy 90 kW, dzi\u0119ki czemu podwojono osi\u0105gi poprzednika, wyposa\u017conego tylko w jeden taki zesp\u00f3\u0142. Maksymalna moc silnik\u00f3w zastosowanych w FCHV-BUS2 wynosi 2&#215;80 kW, a maksymalny moment obrotowy 2&#215;260 Nm. Hybrydowy uk\u0142ad nap\u0119du FCHV-BUS2, w kt\u00f3rym dodatkowy akumulator przechowuje energi\u0119 odzyskiwan\u0105 podczas hamowania, precyzyjnie reguluje dawk\u0119 energii dostarczanej do silnika. Planowane testy na drogach publicznych b\u0119d\u0105 prowadzone razem z innymi podobnymi programami prowadzonymi przez Rz\u0105d Japonii oraz inne instytucje pa\u0144stwowe.
